2nd – 5th February 2022
WILL BE HELD ONLINE
Dear participants of CERME12
It is with great sadness that we must communicate a decision which is forced upon us by the current developments of the COVID epidemic in Europe, and which has been taken by the ERME board in full agreement with us: CERME12 will be organized by the Bolzano team as an online conference, on the same dates as originally foreseen.
For a long time we hoped for the much desired possibility of having the first CERME in three years as a normal, face to face event. But organizing a virtual CERME – which we will strive to hold as much “CERME spirit” as possible – will be a very demanding task, both in terms of finding good technical solutions, and in terms of organizing the programme and preparing the many TWG teams in a good way. The details are all to be worked out, and we will of course inform you at the CERME12 website as soon as they become settled.
As was clearly stated from the beginning at the CERME12 website, there was always the known risk that we had to make such a decision. To anticipate some of the many questions it may give rise to, we point out that
- The virtual CERME12 will only be open to registered participants
- The registration deadline will be prolonged to the end of the year, and be open to all
- The fee are the same, but after CERME12 is held, and all expenses have been totaled, it may become possible to offer partial refunds (we cannot guarantee this, or the amount, at present)
- It remains the responsibility of each participant to seek refund and cancelation of any travel arrangements already made
- All procedures regarding papers and posters proceed as announced
We are fully aware of the disappointment this may cause to the community, but also confident that you will understand that our decisions are, and will be, made after thorough, collective consultation of leading volunteers involved in this crucial undertaking of our community. In February 2022, we will all do our best to make CERME12 the first and (we hope) only virtual CERME in the world!
Best regards
Giorgio Bolondi, Chair of LOC of CERME12
Jeremy Hodgen, Chair of IPC of CERME12
Carl Winsløw, President of ERME
Welcome to CERME 12
Dear Colleagues,
It is with great pleasure and excitement that we invite you to attend the 12th Congress of the European Society for Research in Mathematics Education (CERME12), hosted by the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano. It will take place in Bozen-Bolzano (Italy), from the 2nd to 6th of February, 2022. CERME12 will be preceded by a YERME day for young researchers.
Italy has a longstanding tradition in mathematics education research. In the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano, a young and vibrant athaeneum, there is a fresh and developing research community in this field. So we can offer the European researchers of mathematics education a good academic environment for sharing knowledge. We aim to bring together people active in the field of mathematics education research from all over Europe, and beyond.
The conference will be hosted in the central buildings of the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano. The plenary lectures will take place in the theatre of Bozen-Bolzano, the second producing theatre in Italy. The theatre and all locations for the thematic working groups are located in the centre of the town, near to the artistical and historical highlights and all accommodation facilities.
We look forward to welcoming you at CERME12 in Bozen-Bolzano.
Giorgio Bolondi & Federica Ferretti
Chair & Vice-Chair, Local Organizing Committee
Our engagement is to make CERME12 a green meeting! We hope that you will join us for reaching this target.
